Jean Beno�t was born in Quebec. He came to Surrealism by Oceania (where he stayed several times) and to Europe in order to freely read the works of the Marquis de Sade, of whom, wearing the most wonderful costume, he took care to execute the will.
Jean Beno�t liked to use feathers in his artwork. He always glorified love and eroticism, and in his images, pansies were often to be seen next to some phallus. But he was not afraid to explore the imagery of death, playing with skulls and skeletons. Of all this and of many other things we also happened to be pleased to laugh together.

Jean Beno�t, originaire du Qu�bec, est venu au Surr�alisme par l�Oc�anie (o� il s�journa � plusieurs reprises) et en Europe pour lire librement les oeuvres du Marquis de Sade, dont rev�tu du plus merveilleux des costumes, il eut � coeur d'ex�cuter le testament. Jean Beno�t a volontiers employ� les plumes. Il a toujours glorifi� l'amour et l'�rotisme dans ses images, o� les pens�es cotoyaient avec bonheur les images de phallus. Mais il n'a pas craint d'explorer l'imaginaire de la mort, par�e de ses atours de cr�nes et de squelettes. De cela et de bien d'autres choses avons aussi parfois aim� rire ensemble
